In the fall of 2010, the Division II institution opened classes sporting a new athletics complex that featured 19 acres (800,000 feet) of  synthetic turf – one of the biggest collection of artificial playing surfaces in North America.

WT Athletic Director Michael McBroom chose AstroTurf® GameDay Grass™ 3D after looking at the St. Louis Rams' practive facilities and the Wichita State's baseball facility, Eck Stadium. "It's great stuff," McBroom said. "We really think it's going to be good for our athletes and for the students who use the intramural fields, too."
